What it does

The process fluid runs inside a coil while water is sprayed over its outside. Evaporative cooling happens on the coil surface, so the fluid gets the performance of an open tower while staying in a sealed loop, free of contamination, scale and fouling. Glycol circuits, chilled water serving critical plant, and any duty where fouling the process side would mean a shutdown belong in a closed circuit.

The trade is footprint and fan power. A closed-circuit tower is larger and draws more than an open tower of the same duty, because the heat has to cross a coil wall first.
